    • Oracle and Rai Way have entered a strategic partnership to integrate Oracle’s AI systems into Rai Way’s data centres across Italy, enabling access to Oracle’s database, cloud, and disaster recovery technologies.
    • The collaboration leverages Rai Way’s broadcasting infrastructure to build a carrier-neutral network of data centres, some in remote areas for enhanced cybersecurity.

    OUR TAKE
The collaboration between Oracle and Rai Way not only advances the technological capabilities of Italian businesses but also reinforces the country’s cybersecurity posture. As companies increasingly rely on data-driven strategies, partnerships like this one will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and security of the digital economy in Italy.

    What happened

Oracle and Rai Way announced a strategic partnership to integrate Oracle’s advanced artificial intelligence systems into Rai Way’s data centres across Italy on Thursday. This collaboration will enable Oracle’s corporate clients to utilise the company’s comprehensive suite of database solutions, cloud services, and disaster recovery technologies at Rai Way’s facilities, some of which are strategically located in more remote areas.

The partnership aims to leverage Rai Way’s existing infrastructure, primarily associated with the broadcasting operations of Italian state television RAI, to expand into a diversified carrier-neutral network of data centres. These data centres will be interconnected through a proprietary fibre optic network spanning over 6,000 kilometres. By siting some of the data centres in less populated regions, the companies believe they can provide enhanced cybersecurity measures, as the remote locations add an additional layer of protection against cybercriminals attempting to geographically locate sensitive data.

    Why it’s important

This partnership between Oracle and Rai Way is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it underscores the growing importance of AI and cloud computing in the Italian market. By integrating Oracle’s cutting-edge technologies into Rai Way’s data centres, the companies aim to provide businesses with advanced tools to enhance their operations, improve efficiency, and drive innovation.

Secondly, the focus on cybersecurity is particularly relevant given the increasing sophistication of cyber threats globally. The decision to site some of the data centres in remote locations is a strategic move to mitigate the risk of targeted attacks. This approach complements traditional cybersecurity measures by making it more difficult for attackers to pinpoint and access critical data.

Lastly, the partnership highlights Rai Way’s ambition to diversify beyond its core broadcasting infrastructure and become a key player in the data centre sector. By leveraging its extensive fibre optic network and expanding its footprint across Italy, Rai Way is positioning itself as a trusted provider of secure and reliable data storage and processing services.
