Maxis partners with Nokia for data center upgrades

Maxis has selected Nokia to upgrade its data center infrastructure in Malaysia. The initiative aims to simplify network operations, improve fault resolution, and support automation. As part of the upgrade, Nokia will deploy its 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) data center switches and event-driven automation (EDA) technology across multiple Maxis facilities. Nokia states that the 7220 IXR provides high-capacity and high-density platforms for leaf-spine data center deployments. The upgrades will allow Maxis to allocate infrastructure resources efficiently, streamline network complexity, and ensure the scalability of applications running on its network.

Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng highlighted that this collaboration aligns with Malaysia’s growing role as a data center and hyperscaler hub. He noted that the initiative will strengthen Maxis’ network capabilities, enabling it to offer fast, secure, and reliable connectivity for enterprise and cloud applications. Nokia has been increasing its presence in the data center market, recently appointing Intel’s AI data center lead Justin Hotard as its incoming CEO. The company has also extended its partnership with Microsoft Azure to provide data center networking solutions.

    Why it’s important

Malaysia is emerging as a regional hub for data centers and cloud infrastructure, driven by AI adoption and hyperscaler investments. The partnership between Maxis and Nokia reflects ongoing efforts to improve network scalability and automation in response to increasing digital demands.

Nokia’s deployment of 7220 IXR switches and automation technology aligns with broader industry trends focusing on efficiency, scalability, and security in data center management. The collaboration also reinforces Nokia’s expansion strategy, following its continued investment in AI and data center networking solutions for global enterprises. As the demand for cloud services and AI-driven applications grows, investments in next-generation network infrastructure will play a key role in ensuring seamless digital transformation across industries.
