    • GlobalNet has launched a protected, ring-based DWDM network in Central Europe, connecting key cities and integrating new Points of Presence in Prague and Bratislava.
    • The ring structure improves redundancy and reduces latency, ensuring uninterrupted service through rerouted traffic, which is vital for businesses relying on consistent connectivity.

    OUR TAKE
Looking ahead, this advanced network infrastructure positions Central Europe for accelerated digital transformation. As organisations increasingly rely on robust connectivity to innovate and grow, GlobalNet’s investment enhances operational capabilities across various sectors. If this trend continues, we may see a significant shift in how businesses in the region leverage technology, ultimately fostering a more resilient and competitive telecommunications landscape.

    What happened

GlobalNet, a backbone Internet Service Provider, has successfully deployed a fully protected, ring-based DWDM network across Central Europe. This new infrastructure comprises two rings: one connecting Frankfurt, Berlin, Warsaw, Katowice, and Prague, and the other linking Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Vienna, and Bratislava, creating a cohesive fiber optic system.

The launch of Points of Presence (PoPs) in Prague and Bratislava has been crucial for this expansion, as they integrate previously separate network segments into two fully operational DWDM rings. These locations are set to become essential nodes for managing traffic from Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

The enhanced DWDM network underpins GlobalNet’s range of services, including Capacity (DWDM, Wavelength, L2VPN, VLAN) and DATAIX Internet Exchange services, with bandwidth capabilities of up to 400G per port. The ring structure improves network redundancy and decreases latency by providing alternative routing options in case of channel failures. This fault-tolerant design ensures uninterrupted service through rerouted traffic, thus bolstering overall network reliability.

    Why it’s important

GlobalNet has achieved a significant milestone with the successful deployment of a fully protected, ring-based DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) network across Central Europe. This new infrastructure comprises two interconnected rings that connect key cities, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Warsaw, Katowice, Prague, Stuttgart, Munich, Vienna, and Bratislava, thereby creating a cohesive fiber optic system that enhances connectivity across the region.

One of the key advantages of the ring structure is the improved redundancy and reduced latency it provides. By offering alternative routing options in the event of channel failures, the network ensures uninterrupted service through rerouted traffic, thus bolstering overall reliability. This fault-tolerant design is particularly crucial for businesses that rely on consistent connectivity for their operations.

As digital transformation accelerates across various industries, the deployment of such advanced network infrastructure supports businesses in their growth and innovation efforts. With robust connectivity and reliable service, organisations in Central Europe can leverage new technologies and enhance their operational capabilities. In summary, GlobalNet’s deployment of the DWDM network not only strengthens connectivity in Central Europe but also significantly enhances service reliability, making it a remarkable development in the telecommunications landscape.
