IGF 19 to address digital challenges and opportunities

Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a multistakeholder governance group for policy dialogue, announces its 19th IGF meeting with the topic of “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future” and calls for registration.

About IGF meeting

The United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) convenes representatives from diverse stakeholder organisations for comprehensive discussions on digital public policy. The IGF operates year-round, comprising policy, communication, community, and capacity-building initiatives. Its overarching objective is to foster a collective understanding of maximising digital opportunities while mitigating associated risks and challenges.

The IGF 2024 gathering will adopt a hybrid format to ensure a meaningful and inclusive experience for all stakeholders, whether onsite or online. Scheduled at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre (KAICC) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the event will take place from December 15 to 19, 2024.

The event is structured around 4 core themes: innovation and risk management in the digital realm, digital contributions to peace and sustainability, advancing human rights and inclusion online, and enhancing digital governance for the ideal internet.

Dialogue on digital innovation

The meeting serves as a platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue and share insights on leveraging digital innovation to foster inclusive growth. Through collaborative efforts, participants address the risks associated with digital transformation. Additionally, the discussion explores the multifaceted impact of digitalisation on socio-economic change, spanning both present and future generations

The focus of the meeting is also on enhancing and consolidating open, transparent, and inclusive governance processes related to internet usage and development. Its objective is to progress towards realising the envisioned Internet environment.

The IGF invites individuals or groups from any stakeholder sector—civil society, technical experts, private enterprises, or governmental bodies—to submit proposals aligned with the main theme by April 30, 2024.
