La bande passante peut être achetée en amont par incréments standardisés, acheminée via des passerelles sous licence, routée à travers la fibre, et revendue en forfaits qui semblent interchangeables sur une grille tarifaire. Mais le client résidentiel ou de petite entreprise ne vit pas l'internet comme un débit Mbps abstrait.

Bandwidth can be purchased upstream in standardized increments, routed through licensed gateways, carried over fiber, and resold in plans that seem interchangeable on a price grid. But the residential or small business customer does not experience the internet as an abstract Mbps rate.
