    • Operates under Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, focusing on nuclear research for healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
    • Provides technical services, including radiation safety training, material analysis, and environmental monitoring.

Advancing nuclear science for societal benefit

The Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT), established in 2006, is a public organisation dedicated to harnessing nuclear technology for national development. As a key agency under Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, TINT’s work spans multiple sectors, including medical diagnostics, agricultural innovation, and industrial applications. Its research facilities, such as the Thai Research Reactor-1/Modification 1 (TRR-1/M1), support isotope production, neutron activation analysis, and materials testing. By prioritising safety and public education, TINT ensures nuclear technologies align with Thailand’s socio-economic goals, fostering collaboration with academic institutions and international bodies like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

TINT’s projects address critical challenges, such as improving crop resilience through mutation breeding and enhancing cancer treatment via radiopharmaceutical development. The institute also plays a pivotal role in environmental protection, using nuclear techniques to monitor air and water quality. Its outreach initiatives, including workshops and open-house events, aim to demystify nuclear science and promote informed public discourse. With a workforce of over 200 specialists, TINT balances innovation with ethical responsibility, ensuring its advancements benefit communities while adhering to global safety standards.

    Commitment to research and collaboration

TINT’s strategic partnerships underscore its commitment to advancing nuclear science. Collaborating with universities, such as Chulalongkorn University and Chiang Mai University, the institute facilitates interdisciplinary research on topics like nuclear engineering and radiation biology. Its training programmes equip professionals with skills in radiation safety and reactor operations, addressing Thailand’s growing demand for specialised expertise. Internationally, TINT contributes to IAEA-led projects, sharing knowledge on nuclear applications for climate resilience and food security.

Looking ahead, TINT aims to expand its role in clean energy, exploring small modular reactors (SMRs) as a low-carbon power source. Its research into nuclear fusion and waste management reflects a long-term vision for sustainable energy solutions. By maintaining transparency and engaging stakeholders, TINT strives to build public trust in nuclear technologies, positioning Thailand as a regional leader in scientific innovation.
