- Telia offers $320 million to acquire Swedish fibre operator Bredband2
- Move coincides with planned withdrawal from Latvian market after 25 years
What happened: Nordic telecom reshuffle
Telia Company has made a $320 million (2.8 billion SEK) binding offer to acquire Swedish fibre broadband provider Bredband2, as reported by Data Center Dynamics. The deal would expand Telia’s Swedish fibre network by 15,000 km, reaching 90% of the country’s urban households.
Concurrently, Telia confirmed plans to exit Latvia by selling its 49% stake in Tet, as stated in their Investor Relations announcements. This follows Baltic market withdrawals including Lithuania in 2023 and Estonia in 2022.

Why it’s important
The dual moves signal Telia’s strategic refocus on high-growth Nordic markets, where fibre penetration lags behind European leaders like Spain and Portugal. The Bredband2 acquisition would immediately make Telia Sweden’s second-largest fibre provider behind Openreach.
However, analysts note challenges. The $320 million price represents a 22% premium to Bredband2’s 2024 revenue, raising questions about valuation. Meanwhile, the Latvian exit completes Telia’s Baltic withdrawal, but may complicate enterprise services for cross-border clients. The decisions come as Nordic telecom investment grows 12% annually, per Nordic Council data.
