    • NWSC is Uganda’s leading utility provider for water and sewage services.
    • The company focuses on expanding its reach and improving water supply and sanitation in both urban and rural areas.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has been at the forefront of Uganda’s efforts to improve access to clean water and sanitation services. As the country’s largest public utility provider, NWSC delivers essential water and sewerage services across urban centres and rural areas, playing a key role in improving public health and supporting the growth of Uganda’s economy.

NWSC: A leader in water and sewerage services

Established in 1972, NWSC operates as a government-owned corporation tasked with providing clean water and wastewater services to communities across Uganda. The company supplies water to more than 15 million people across the country, managing over 250 water supply systems. With an ongoing commitment to expanding infrastructure and increasing efficiency, NWSC ensures that more people have access to safe, reliable water and sanitation.

The corporation’s mission goes beyond simply supplying water; it also seeks to improve the quality of services, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance the environmental sustainability of water management. NWSC is constantly innovating, integrating advanced technologies and improved processes into its operations. This includes the use of modern water treatment plants, automated meter reading systems, and real-time monitoring systems for water distribution.

Addressing the challenges of water access

Uganda, like many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, faces significant challenges in providing equitable access to clean water. Rural areas, in particular, struggle with inadequate water supply and sanitation infrastructure. NWSC has taken significant strides in addressing these challenges through infrastructure development and strategic partnerships with international donors and governments.

The corporation has expanded its water supply systems to remote and underserved regions, aiming to improve access for rural populations. In addition to extending water networks, NWSC is investing in the rehabilitation of aging infrastructure to ensure the reliable delivery of water. Furthermore, NWSC is working to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and hygiene practices, which are crucial in managing limited water resources.
