Interview with Skhumbuzo Mazibuko, CEO of Kasi Connect KC

    • Skhumbuzo “SK” Mazibuko, CEO of Kasi Connect KC, is driving digital inclusion in South African townships through affordable internet, mobile, and financial services, with a focus on community ownership, local skills development, and economic empowerment.
    • Kasi Connect KC is expanding beyond connectivity with innovations like iKasi Wallet and Kasi Retail Co-op, creating an integrated ecosystem where township communities can connect, transact, and grow sustainably.

Introducing Skhumbuzo Mazibuko – CEO of Kasi Connect KC

Skhumbuzo Mazibuko is a visionary social entrepreneur dedicated to transforming Africa’s digital landscape. As the founder and Managing Director of multiple companies—including Bullzeye Security Ops, Kasi Connect KC, and Nzima Nyanda Legacy—he has led projects that provide innovative solutions to underserved communities across the continent.

At the helm of Kasi Connect KC, SK is pioneering efforts to bridge the digital divide in South Africa’s townships. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Boksburg, Gauteng, Kasi Connect KC is a forward-thinking company committed to delivering affordable internet, mobile, and financial services tailored to the unique needs of township communities.

Under SK’s leadership, Kasi Connect KC has introduced services such as fibre internet, the Kasi Wallet payment system, and mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) offerings. These initiatives aim to empower individuals and small businesses by providing reliable connectivity and financial tools that foster economic growth and inclusion.

Question 1 – Leadership and Vision: “You have extensive experience in IT and digital solutions across Africa. What drives your passion for improving digital infrastructure on the continent, and how do you see Africa’s connectivity landscape evolving over the next five years?”

    Skhumbuzo Mazibuko:
“My drive comes from seeing how lack of digital access locks people out of opportunity. Every township without reliable connectivity is a community left behind. Over the next five years, I see Africa pushing toward hybrid models, trenching in dense areas, aerial builds in spread-out ones, with local ISPs and fintechs leading. The shift will be about speed, affordability, and building systems that communities can own and trust.”

Question 2 – Challenges and Opportunities: “Despite growth in digital adoption, many parts of Africa still face connectivity gaps. From your perspective, what are the biggest challenges for expanding IT infrastructure, and what opportunities are emerging for innovation and investment?”

    Skhumbuzo Mazibuko:
“The biggest challenges are cost of infrastructure, regulatory bottlenecks, and unreliable power. Many large operators overlook low-income areas because margins seem thin. The opportunity lies in new technologies like wireless backhaul, shared infrastructure models, and community-driven ISPs. Investors who understand volume over margin will see scale. Township markets are young, digital-first, and hungry — that’s where the real growth is.”

Question 3 – Community-Focused Services: “Kasi Connect KC focuses on bringing affordable internet and financial services to underserved communities. How does your company balance the technical, social, and economic aspects of delivering these services effectively?”

    Skhumbuzo Mazibuko:
“Kasi Connect KC makes affordability the base. We combine local build teams, community engagement, and simple pricing to cut barriers. Socially, we work through co-ops and local businesses to build trust. Economically, we keep circulation local — the money spent on connectivity fuels local jobs. Technically, we invest in training so township youth can maintain and grow the network. It’s a balance: keep costs low, build local skills, and give communities ownership.”

Question 4 – Future Plans and Innovation: “Looking ahead, what innovations or expansions is Kasi Connect KC planning, and how do you envision these shaping the digital and financial landscape of the communities you serve?”

    Skhumbuzo Mazibuko:
“We are scaling beyond internet. Our focus now is integrating internet, payments, and digital services into one ecosystem. iKasi Wallet, our payment system, will allow people to pay bills, shop, and transfer money securely in the same space they get connected. We’re also rolling out Kasi Retail Co-op, linking spaza shops and small businesses into digital platforms. Together these moves will redefine how townships connect, trade, and build wealth.”

Building a connected township economy with iKasi wallet and iKasiLink

At Kasi Connect KC, our mission is to bridge the digital and financial gap with solutions built for the township economy. Beyond connectivity, we are rolling out iKasi Wallet, a secure and accessible payment system, and iKasiLink, our township-first chat app that connects people, businesses, and services in one platform. Together, these platforms will shape a connected ecosystem where communities can transact, communicate, and grow on their own terms.
