Introduction to Thomas Höschele and CampusGenius GmbH
Hello, my name is Thomas Höschele. I’m the Co-Founder and Managing Director of CampusGenius GmbH. We are a Germany-based company focusing on industrial communication networks. Whenever a customer needs their own 5G network for use cases like robotics, augmented reality, sensors, or video transmission, we build these networks and supply them with the “brain”—our proprietary 5G-GeniusCore software.
The GeniusCore is the heart of your 5G network, handling device registration, routing, and ensuring top-notch data quality. This cloud-native 5G Core, tailored for reliability and security, simplifies the operation of your 5G network.

Q: Could you dive a little deeper into the 5G-GeniusCore software?
A: As a packet core for 5G networks, it is interoperable with different radio access network vendors and is both lean and scalable. We can deploy it on something as small as a Raspberry Pi or on a large server, depending on the customer’s requirements.
The software bridges the gap between the applications customers use and the radio hardware that transmits data. It manages the entire network, ensuring smooth operation and flexibility to adapt as requirements change.

Flexible integration for diverse applications
Q: How do you integrate this software into clients’ systems?
A: Clients can design and deploy their own private 5G networks using our 5G-GeniusCore software as the central control system. We also offer the option to supply compatible radio hardware, enabling seamless integration of applications like robotics, video transmission, and IoT solutions into their communication infrastructure.

One of our use cases is handling large data transmissions, such as video feeds from cameras. Often, cameras have power but no Ethernet cables for data transfer. Using a private 5G network, we can wirelessly transmit high-bandwidth data.
Another example is drones or autonomous guided vehicles, which rely on video and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data for navigation and sensing their environment. These applications demand high data throughput and low latency, which private 5G networks are perfectly suited for, especially when safety and reliability are critical.

Q: What sets CampusGenius apart from competitors?
A: We specialise in private 5G networks designed for industrial use, unlike public telecommunications providers such as British Telecom or Vodafone. Our industrial clients require fast, secure, and reliable communication to support critical operations, and we are currently undergoing security certification to ensure the highest standards.
A key advantage is our simple and user-friendly interface for managing networks. Unlike public networks, which require frequent adjustments, private networks are typically set up once and need minimal changes, making ease of use essential.
Q: With 5G and AI technologies booming, how do you plan to position CampusGenius in the UK and Europe?
A: That’s a great question. AI is driving demand for smart networks. We’re working on a project with the University of Sheffield and TUBR, a UK-based AI company. Together, we’re integrating AI mechanisms into digital twins using private 5G networks.

Pushing the boundaries of automation and AR
Q: What excites you most about this field?
A: I’m especially excited about advancing automation in industrial production lines and processes. Technologies like AR and human-robot collaboration have tremendous potential for growth.
As tasks become more automated, technologies like AR and VR will rely on 5G connectivity for smoother performance. High-throughput, low-latency wireless networks are essential to prevent delays, avoid issues like motion sickness in VR, and enable seamless operations in industrial environments.
Seeking partnerships and collaborations
A: We have recently entered the UK market and are at the early stages of international expansion. We are actively seeking partners with expertise in operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) to collaborate with us as we grow.
Our journey so far has included productive discussions with system integrators, and we are leveraging connections established through AI projects in the UK. This marks an exciting phase of development, and we look forward to exploring new opportunities and partnerships to drive mutual success.
