    • Vodacom Eastern Cape is investing R500 million ($28 million) to expand broadband and modernise infrastructure, especially in rural areas.
    • The initiative also focuses on security upgrades and backup power for network sites, and contributes to various social and environmental causes.

Vodacom Eastern Cape is dedicating R500 million ($28 million) this financial year to boost network modernisation, improve broadband accessibility, and enhance security infrastructure across townships and rural areas. This forms part of their broader goal to promote digital inclusion and empower communities.

    Network Expansion and Investment

Vodacom Eastern Cape’s investment focuses on upgrading network infrastructure and deploying 5G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) sites throughout the region. With a total of R1 billion ($56 million) invested over two years, Vodacom aims to bridge the digital divide, especially in underserved areas such as Lower Bay, Central Bay, and Upper Bay. The company is also addressing power disruptions and theft through security enhancements and backup power solutions at key network locations.

In addition to improving connectivity, Vodacom is offering affordable voice and data packages like Just4You, starting at just 5 Rand, ensuring more residents can access digital services. The company’s efforts aim to provide a reliable, inclusive network for all South Africans, regardless of their location.

“Our approach is to first build on our infrastructure to ensure that we can unlock the many opportunities afforded by the latest technology, such as 5G, and deliver a quality network experience for all our customers.”

Zakhele Jiyane, Managing Executive for Vodacom Eastern Cape Region
