From the web3 infrastructure firm 0G Labs build their modular AI blockchain to America’s FCC introduces IoT cybersecurity labelling, here’s the technology news you need to know today.


1. 0G Labs launches with whopping US$35M pre-seed to build a modular AI blockchain

According to TechCrunch, as the crypto space heats back up, so has funding for new startups. 0G Labs, a web3 infrastructure firm, has raised US$35 million in a pre-seed round. (TechCrunch)

2. USDT stablecoin issuer Tether hiring for AI division  

USDT issuer Tether Operations Limited said it is trying to expand its AI capabilities by building up its AI division. (THE BLOCK)

3. Cloudflare reveals it’s automated empathy to avoid fixing flaky hardware too often

Cloudflare has revealed a little about how it maintains the millions of boxes it operates around the world – including the concept of an “error budget” that enacts “empathy embedded in automation.” (The Register)

4. UK and US accuse China of multiple ‘malicious’ cyberattacks

The UK and the US have claimed that several cyberattacks targeting government entities and critical infrastructure were orchestrated by Chinese “state-sponsored” organizations and individuals. (Silicon Republic)

5. Dell doubles down on layoffs, literally: 13,000 gone in the past year

Dell this week disclosed it has 120,000 workers, which is about 13,000 fewer than it had at the start of 2023. That means it has laid off almost double the number of people it previously indicated. (The Register)

6. Nissan announces plans to make 16 new electrified vehicles by 2026

Nissan has laid out a new plan to electrify 16 of the 30 vehicles it produces by 2026, with the rest using internal combustion instead. For those of us in North America, the company says it plans to release seven new vehicles in the US and Canada, although it’s not clear how many of those will be some type of EV. (The Verge)

7. Telegram’s peer-to-peer Login system is a risky way to save $5 a month

Telegram is offering a new way to earn a premium subscription free of charge: all you have to do is volunteer your phone number to relay one-time passwords (OTP) to other users. This, in fact, sounds like an awful idea — particularly for a messaging service based around privacy. (The Verge)

9. TFC Hartree Centre signs agreement with Lenovo for state-of-the-art supercomputer

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), a UK government agency that carries out research in science and engineering, has signed an agreement with Lenovo for the installation of a powerful new supercomputer for the STFC Hartree Centre. (AINEWS)

10. AI is a data problem. Cyera is raising up to $300M on a $1.5B valuation to secure it

A cybersecurity startup called Cyera is betting that the next big challenge in enterprise data protection will be AI, and it’s raising a big round of funding as demand picks up for it. (TechCrunch)

11. Future AI could share knowledge like the borg in ‘star trek’

AI experts from leading universities believe future AI systems will work together and share information via a network, similar to the Borg in “star trek.” (AI BUSINESS)

12. Eliyan raises $60M for chiplet interconnects that speed up AI chips

Eliyan has raised $60 million in funding for its chiplet interconnect technology that speeds up the processing for AI chips. (VentureBeat)

13. PlayStation VR2 firmware update enables PC access and GeForce RTX support

Sony’s PlayStation VR2, currently exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console, will soon add official PC support. In an official PlayStation Blog post, Sony announced it was “currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC.” (TweakTown)

14. America’s FCC introduces IoT cybersecurity labelling

The US Federal Communications Commission has voted to create a voluntary cybersecurity labelling program for wireless consumer Internet of Things (IoT) products. (IoT news)
