4iG renews satellite deal with Intelsat, securing Hungary’s TV future

    • Reliable satellite coverage secured: The new agreement ensures uninterrupted Direct-to-Home (DTH) broadcasting via the Intelsat 1 West orbital slot.
    • Looking ahead: Plans include upgrading set-top boxes and rolling out value-added services to meet changing viewer needs.

4iG renews Intelsat deal for DTH TV services

Hungary’s 4iG Group has renewed a major agreement with Intelsat that will keep its Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite TV services running smoothly for years to come. The deal, announced this week, covers long-term access to satellite capacity at Intelsat’s key 1 West orbital position—used by broadcasters to deliver TV content to homes across Central and Eastern Europe.

The agreement is handled through Hungaro Digitel (HDT), a 4iG subsidiary that provides satellite services to several regional operators, including One Telecommunication. According to HDT CEO Sándor Molnár, the renewed partnership guarantees “the infrastructure required to serve Hungarian satellite television subscribers,” helping 4iG stay ahead in the country’s competitive broadcasting market.

Intelsat’s Rhys Morgan added that the deal shows how DTH services still play a vital role, especially in areas where internet connectivity isn’t always reliable.

    Why it matters

While streaming continues to grow globally, satellite TV remains essential in many parts of Europe—especially rural or remote areas. By securing this agreement, 4iG ensures that millions of homes can continue receiving high-quality TV without interruption.

But the renewal isn’t just about maintaining service—it’s also about upgrading it. Both parties have agreed to collaborate on future developments, including modernising set-top boxes and introducing new services that could bring hybrid TV models (mixing satellite and online features) to the region. It also fits into 4iG’s bigger picture. The Budapest-based company has been expanding rapidly across telecoms, IT, and even space tech. This renewed partnership with Intelsat supports those ambitions, while keeping its satellite services firmly grounded.
