    • Zendo Energy has secured £1.75M in funding to develop software aimed at decarbonising data centres and adapting to AI workload demands.
    • The investment, led by Fly Ventures, will help data centres reduce energy costs and integrate renewable sources more effectively.

What happened: Zendo Energy secures funding to transform data centre sustainability

Zendo Energy, a British startup focused on decarbonising data centres, has secured £1.75 million in a pre-seed funding round. The round was led by Fly Ventures, with participation from Octopus Ventures, Pact VC, and angel investors from the data centre industry. This investment will accelerate the development of Zendo’s innovative software platform, designed to adapt to the unpredictable demands of AI workloads while navigating fluctuating energy markets.

As the demand for electricity from data centres is expected to more than double by 2030, Zendo aims to help these facilities integrate renewable energy sources more efficiently. Their technology promises to reduce energy costs by up to 25%, addressing a critical challenge in the industry.

    Why this is important

This funding is significant as data centres face increasing pressure to become more sustainable amid a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The surge in AI usage and cloud computing has heightened electricity demands, making decarbonisation essential for long-term viability.

Zendo’s approach not only supports the transition to greener energy but also aligns with global efforts to combat climate change. As businesses strive for sustainability, Zendo’s solutions can help them reduce their carbon footprint while managing operational costs effectively.

Moreover, this development reflects a growing trend in the tech industry, where startups are increasingly focused on sustainable practices. Other companies in the sector are also seeking innovative ways to integrate renewable energy and reduce emissions. With investor confidence in Zendo, the broader market is likely to see more initiatives aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in data centres. This shift not only benefits the environment but also provides a competitive edge for businesses that prioritise sustainability, ultimately impacting consumers positively.
