xAI’s chatbot Grok will be available to all premium subscribers

  • Elon Musk posted on X that the chatbot from xAI will be enabled for all premium subscribers of social media platform X.
  • No other details were revealed, though previously, the chatbot was only available to Premium+ subscribers.
  • The move could give the public a free trial of the code behind the technology and bring xAI in line with companies like Meta.

Wider adoption of chatbots

Elon Musk said Tuesday that Grok, a chatbot from artificial intelligence startup xAI, will be enabled for all premium subscribers of social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

He made the announcement in a post on X, but gave no further details. Previously, chatbots were only available to Premium+ subscribers. With more advertisers moving away from the microblogging platform, the tech giant founder has made a point of reducing the company’s reliance on advertising and shifting its attention to more attractive subscription plans.

Free trial for the public

Earlier this month, Musk said xAI would open source Grok, after he sued OpenAI for allegedly abandoning its original mission in favor of a for-profit model. The move could give the public a free trial of the code behind the technology and bring xAI in line with companies such as Meta and France’s Mistral, both of which have open-source AI models.
