X introduces video and audio calling, Musk labels it a test product

    Key points:

    · X now allows users to make audio and video calls without sharing phone number.

    · Elon Musk’s vision for X is to transform it into a super app, offering a wide array of services.

X has officially rolled out audio and video calling features. If you open X today, you’ll be greeted with a popup message that says: “Audio and Video calls are here!”

The feature can be switched on with a toggle switch labeled “Enable Audio and Video Calling.” Users have the option to activate this feature and choose with whom they wish to use it.

The new feature is a part of Musk’s vision to transform X into the mobile equivalent of a one-stop shop.

Users can now connect with their contacts from their address book, people they follow, verified users, or any combination of these three to make or receive audio and video calls.

To begin a conversation, users simply open a private message with another user, select the phone icon located in the upper right corner of the screen, and choose between audio or video calling.

In a recent post, one user expressed their excitement about this shiny new feature: “X now allows you to make voice and video calls without sharing your phone number.”

Elon Musk, the Chief Technology Officer and owner of X, disclosed that the introduction of these communication features is part of a broader effort to enhance X’s capabilities.

X to constantly reinvent its identity

Musk previously published posts which he referred to as guides for users on the “early versions of video and audio calling on X.” There has been a constant undertone that hints at the platform’s ongoing evolution.

Under Musk’s leadership, X has seen a series of significant updates and changes to its core experience since his acquisition of the social media company almost a year ago.

Renamed from Twitter to X, Musk’s vision for the platform is to transform it into a super app, offering a wide array of services ranging from messaging and social networking to peer-to-peer payments.

Musk had previously hinted at these calling features in August. He assured users that a phone number would not be necessary for their use and that they would be available on Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and personal computers.
