- TM Forum and GSMA launch joint scheme
- Telefónica gains first certification
What happened: TM Forum and GSMA create single API test and certification
TM Forum and GSMA have started a shared certification programme for Open Gateway APIs. This new scheme covers TM Forum Operate APIs and CAMARA Service APIs. Providers can now test once and receive approval for both. Telefónica is the first to complete this process. The Open Gateway model offers common APIs to access telecom services. It includes features like product catalog, ordering, and onboarding.
The certification helps lower cost, improve API use, and increase trust in global telecom systems. Over 70 telecom groups, across 280 networks, have joined the Open Gateway initiative. This group covers nearly 80% of global mobile users. TM Forum added Aduna, a global API platform, to support more integrations and help with future growth.

Why it’s important
One simple API certification saves time and cost. It lets telecom firms launch products faster. Fewer tests mean smoother service setups. The joint effort also pushes wider use of Open Gateway APIs. These APIs help connect mobile networks with new apps. The move can help businesses and developers use APIs more easily. It supports growth in areas like 5G and IoT. The TM Forum and GSMA plan could help companies reduce delays and boost global reach.
