    • AI-generated responses will include an overview statement, links to the main sources used by the models, related information, and videos for certain queries.
    • Google has also introduced a similar tool called AI Overview to provide quick answers to user queries and compete with AI chatbots.

    OUR TAKE
Microsoft’s focus on AI-powered summaries in search engines signifies a significant shift towards more efficient and personalized search experiences for users, leveraging advanced technologies to deliver relevant information quickly. Compared with a similar tool from a few years ago called AI Overview, this one will be more advanced.

    What happened

Microsoft began adding AI-powered summaries in the Bing search engine. They said the new feature combines the foundation of Bing’s search results with the power of large and small language models, known as LLMs and SLMs. According to Microsoft, Bing Generative Search dynamically matches the content and generates search results in a new, AI-generated layout to fulfil the intent of the user’s query more effectively.

However, it is still in the testing phase and is only available to “a small number of user queries” at this stage. “We are slowly rolling this out and will take our time, garner feedback, test and learn, and work to create a great experience before making this more broadly available,” Microsoft said.

Compared with a similar tool from a few years ago called AI Overview, there may be new features this time, but at the same time, we want to emphasize that this AI tool can not replace real news.

    What it’s important

Microsoft introduced the generative search capabilities in Bing which signifies a significant advancement in search engine technology, aiming to provide users with original responses compiled by AI, leading to a more efficient and personalized search experience. And this can create a great user experience through generative search features.

After the potential integration of generative search capabilities with other platforms or services, they could lead to a seamless and enhanced search experience across various digital interfaces. The user can get authentic and relevant information and enhance the credibility and reliability of search outcomes.

The gradual rollout of generative search features and the focus on gathering feedback demonstrate a user-centric approach to improving search functionalities, ensuring that user needs and preferences are prioritized.
