Introduction to Liran Zvibel

Liran Zvibel co-founded WEKA, the AI-native data platform company, in 2013. Currently, as the Chief Executive Officer, he guides the company’s long-term vision and strategy. Previously, he served as WEKA’s Chief Technology Officer.

Before founding WEKA, Liran co-founded and led research and development at the social startup Fusic, where he was responsible for engineering, design, and the development of its rich social media application portfolio. Prior to Fusic, he was the principal software architect and a founding member of the technical team at XIV Storage Systems, which was acquired by IBM in 2007. At IBM, he managed XIV’s hardware and platform teams for several years.

Earlier in his career, Liran served as a software engineer with the rank of Captain in the Israeli Defence Forces for five years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from Tel Aviv University.

Liran Zvibel’s working experience

Liran Zvibel’s career began in the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), where he served from 2000 to 2005. As a Software Engineer and Commander, he led a project that earned the prestigious Israeli Defence Award and achieved the rank of Captain. He also commanded the “Aram” course in 2002, showcasing his leadership and technical prowess early in his career. Prior to his military service, Liran spent a year as a Software Engineer at InSightec in 1999. He also worked briefly as a System Administrator and System Programmer at Tel Aviv University’s Math School Computational Centre in 1998.

From 2005 to December 2008, Liran was the Principal Software Architect at XIV, where he defined the clustering infrastructure and various software development frameworks and tools. His role was pivotal in shaping the technical foundation and capabilities of the company. He continued his journey at XIV as the Hardware and Platform Manager from 2008 to February 2010, responsible for managing hardware teams, developing software frameworks for clustering infrastructure, and advancing Linux kernel and driver development. From 2010 to May 2011, he worked as an Architect at XIV, an IBM brand, focusing on the development of hardware and software frameworks.

Liran co-founded Fusic and served as the VP of R&D from March 2011 to January 2014. In this role, he managed the development of a scalable website featuring video recording and playback capabilities, internal social networking features, integration with other social networks, mobile applications, and an independent video editing platform. His efforts were centred in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he led the company’s technical vision and product development.

Before assuming the CEO role at WEKA, Liran was the Co-Founder and CTO of the company from January 2014 to November 2017. During this period, he was instrumental in establishing the company’s technological foundation, driving innovation, and ensuring the robustness of WEKA’s data platform. His tenure as CTO was based in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he oversaw the development and integration of cutting-edge technologies.

Since November 2017, Liran Zvibel has served as the Co-Founder and CEO of WEKA, a groundbreaking data platform for AI and cloud applications. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, WEKA is renowned for being the only shared file system faster than a local file system (FS) for input/output (IO) and metadata operations.
