AI avatars facilitate genuine conversations

Lenovo conducted a pioneering social experiment employing AI across its devices, crafting lifelike avatars of two Gen Z participants.

Generation Z, also known as the Internet Generation, Digital Natives, generally refers to the generation seamlessly engaged with the internet and digital information technologies from birth, heavily influenced by digital information technology, instant communication devices, and smartphone products.

Two-thirds of Generation Z feel a disconnect between their online and offline selves, exacerbating feelings of loneliness and anxiety. Nearly half of Generation Z express that it is easier to express themselves online than offline, yet 60% also hope for deeper conversations with family and loved ones in real life.

These avatars from the experiment fostered natural discussions, revealing hidden aspects of participants’ online lives and enhancing family understanding.

Utilising Lenovo’s comprehensive technology

Lenovo utilised its array of devices and solutions, the digital versions of the two Generation Z participants were created with their consent, using their data from social media, blogs, and forums, which was securely organised. This data was then trained and tested, and the project’s design and implementation utilised Lenovo devices, services, software, servers, and cloud solutions.

This innovative approach marks the first time that Lenovo solutions have been jointly developed for such avatars, representing a milestone in using technology to address mental health challenges.
