Apple’s overseas suppliers had increased production of the new iPads
Bloomberg News reported in March that Apple’s overseas suppliers had increased production of the new iPads, hinting at an early May launch. These new models mark Apple’s first major update to the lineup since 2018 when the iPad was first introduced in January 2010.
The potential launch coincides with a decline in iPad sales, which dropped by 25% to $7.02 billion in the first quarter, mirroring the slowing sales of its flagship product, the iPhone.
New iPads will be unveiled at the event
Analysts believe that new iPads will be unveiled at the event, citing the image of an Apple pencil and artwork on the invitation. Despite economic uncertainty affecting the tablet market, Apple aims to address the demand slump with new products.
The company currently offers five iPad models, including the Pro, Air, Mini, and ninth and tenth generations of the regular iPad, contributing just 5.9% to its total net sales of $119.58 billion in the first quarter ended Dec 30.
Apple is also set to host its Worldwide Developers Conference from June 10 to June 14.
