- Argentina’s President Milei explores partnerships with global Big Tech through potential collaborations initiated on Tinder.
- After securing an unexpected victory last year, Javier Milei continues his economic overhaul, now reaching out to Big Tech for support, with plans for a technology summit aimed at enhancing Argentina’s appeal across various industries.
Javier Milei, Argentina’s libertarian president, announced on Wednesday that he had been in contact with Sean Rad, co-founder of the dating app Tinder, to discuss organising a tech summit, aiming to stimulate corporate interest in Argentina.
Tech summit plans for Argentina with Tinder
Last year, Javier Milei won a surprising victory by pledging to discard conventional norms to rescue Argentina from its most severe economic downturn in decades. The country faced a profound fiscal deficit, an annual inflation rate exceeding 200%, and over 40% of the population living in poverty.
On Wednesday, the former economic commentator revealed that he had conversed with Sean Rad, co-founder of the dating app Tinder, to organize a technology summit. This initiative is a broader effort by Milei to garner more business attention for Argentina across various sectors, ranging from oil to technology and mining.
He posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, “I just had a conference call with @seanrad, founder of Tinder, and we have agreed to have a meeting in Buenos Aires with other great entrepreneurs from the technological world.”

Big Tech grows support for Milei
Before Tinder, Milei may already be backed by other Big Tech figures.
Milei is working to overturn an economic decline projected at 2.8% this year by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). His free-market libertarian principles have earned admiration from prominent figures in the global business community, such as Elon Musk, the owner of X.
Elon Musk has previously said that he admires Milei for launching a drastic economic reform program and putting a stop to public protests. He previously wrote on X that “prosperity is ahead for Argentina”.
Musk also expressed his praise after Milei’s speech at the World Economic Forum, noting, “good explanation of what makes countries more or less prosperous.”
At the World Economic Forum, Milei stood up and gave unreserved support for capitalism. In addition to being “fair and morally superior,” free-market capitalism is also the cause of “the biggest expansion in wealth and prosperity in our history” for humanity.
