Sam Altman conducts large-scale OpenAI roadshow

  • OpenAI conducted product roadshows in major cities, attracting executives from Fortune 500 companies.
  • They showcased ChatGPT’s capabilities and emphasised benefits for enterprise clients.
  • Despite past challenges, OpenAI’s revenue is rapidly increasing, with significant interest in their products from various industries.

In the first two weeks of this month, OpenAI held multiple product roadshows in San Francisco, New York, and London, with each event drawing ‘at least 100’ executives from Fortune 500 companies. During these roadshows, CEO Sam Altman and COO Brad Lightcap conducted live product demonstrations, including simple text generation, integrating customer apps with OpenAI’s API, and the recently discussed ‘text-to-video’ model.

92% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted the consumer version of ChatGPT

When engaging with potential clients from the finance, healthcare, and energy industries, OpenAI executives emphasised a range of applications such as call centre management and translation, highlighting that 92% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted their consumer version of ChatGPT. However, potential clients posed critical questions, such as why they should purchase ChatGPT Enterprise when they are already Microsoft Azure customers.

In response, Altman and Lightcap highlighted the benefits of purchasing ChatGPT Enterprise, including direct collaboration with the OpenAI team, access to the latest models, and opportunities for customised AI products. OpenAI measures its revenue growth uniquely using an annualised revenue rate, which reached $2 billion in December last year, indicating the company’s potential to achieve $1 billion in revenue within ten years of its founding, particularly after its revenue rate reached $1.3 billion in October last year.

OpenAI’s revenue continues to grow strongly

Despite internal turmoil in November last year, OpenAI’s revenue continues to grow strongly. Lightcap revealed last week that over 600,000 people have registered for ChatGPT’s enterprise and team editions, a significant increase from 150,000 in January. Subscription pricing for individual users is $20 per month, while team users are charged $25 per person per month. The pricing for the enterprise edition is generally based on inquiry, but multiple sources suggest it is approximately $50-60 per account per month.

In addition to ChatGPT, OpenAI is actively promoting its Sora video production tool to Hollywood producers, with two ‘major Hollywood production companies’ already seeking early access to the program, despite industry scepticism about the training data and reliability of Sora.
