    • Apple’s AirTag waterproof rating is IP67, and it can be soaked continuously for 30 minutes in water depths of up to 1 meter.
    • Although the IP67 rating guarantees the AirTag’s underwater use for a short period of time, prolonged underwater immersion may still affect its performance.

Apple‘s AirTag is a well-designed smart tracker with excellent water resistance to protect it from water during everyday use. By understanding its waterproof rating and protection method, you can better understand how to effectively use and protect AirTag, thereby extending its service life and ensuring its stable performance.

    Apple’s AirTag is waterproof

Apple’s AirTag is designed to be waterproof, with a specific waterproof rating of IP67. According to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard, IP67 means that the AirTag can be immersed continuously for 30 minutes in water depths of up to 1 meter without damage. This makes the AirTag resistant to accidental water splashes or rain soaking in daily use, providing users with a degree of security.

    How to protect your AirTag

Although the AirTag has good water resistance, it needs to be protected to in order to extend its service life. Here are some methods.

    1. Avoid prolonged immersion: Although the IP67 rating guarantees the AirTag’s underwater use for a short period of time, prolonged underwater immersion may still affect its performance.

    2. Cleaning and maintenance: Regular cleaning of the AirTag surface, especially the connector and sensor parts, can help prevent dust and dirt accumulation and maintain its normal operation.

    3. Use protective covers: Consider using specialised protective or waterproof covers for AirTag, these kits can provide additional protection, especially when used outdoors or in high-risk environments.

Waterproof performance compared with other products

The highest waterproof rating, IP68, is often regarded as one of the best standards for modern electronic devices, and many high-end smartphones and smartwatches meet this standard. In contrast, the AirTag’s IP67 waterproof rating, although lower, is sufficient to cope with most water splashes and rain in ordinary daily use. Here are some other products.

    Tile Pro

Tile Pro is another well-known smart tracker, widely used to track things like keys, backpacks, and more. Tile Pro is IP68 waterproof, which means it can be used in deeper water, such as up to 1.5 meters deep, and can stay underwater longer. In contrast, the Tile Pro is slightly more waterproof than the AirTag.

    Samsung Galaxy SmartTag

Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag is a smart tracker designed for Samsung devices and is also widely used for item tracking. It is IP53 rated water resistant, which means it can resist small amounts of dust and splatters, but it is not suitable for use when completely submerged in water. In terms of water resistance, the Galaxy SmartTag is slightly lower than the AirTag and Tile Pro.

    Chipolo ONE Spot

The Chipolo ONE Spot is another smart tracker that uses Apple’s Find My network. Its water resistance is IPX5, which means it can resist jet streams, but it can’t be completely submerged in water. As a result, the Chipolo ONE Spot is slightly less waterproof than the AirTag and Tile Pro.
