First quantum computer

European cloud provider OVHcloud recently brought together the European Quantum Ecosystem in Croix, France, to inaugurate the commissioning of the first quantum computer from a European cloud service provider.

At a time when European countries are expressing a growing desire to lead innovation, take back control of the future, assert sovereignty and uphold their values, OVHcloud says it understands the importance of investing in state-of-the-art solutions to support Europe’s strategic autonomy.

Quinten helps the future of cloud computing

To demonstrate its commitment to innovation, OVHcloud purchased Quandela Quantum computers in March 2023, sending a clear message of support to the entire Quantum ecosystem through France’s “Choose French Technology” program. The Group is committed to developing and promoting a strong ecosystem of players who share the same values of innovation, data protection and openness. The MosaiQ system, the first Quandela computer to ship from the factory, was delivered to the data center in late 2023 and is now set up and configured accordingly. Today, it is one of the few quantum computers currently in the cloud.

Niccolo Somaschi, co-founder and CEO of Quandela, said: “We are very proud that the first quantum computer produced in our factory is now installed in one of the OVHcloud data centers and connected to their cloud. This is an important step in developing and using our technology within the European quantum and research community.” It confirms our ambition and commitment to democratize quantum computing for industry, research and academia in general in order to build a strong European ecosystem.”

Education support

OVHcloud is proud to announce an education program to finance selected students from higher education institutions and universities, including members of the QuanTEdu-France consortium, such as Paris Telecom. Therefore, after reviewing their application, students will have free access to OVHcloud’s Quandela QPU via the cloud. Students will receive 80 hours of access using the Group’s unrivalled line of quantum notebooks, including Alice & Bob, C12, Eviden, Pasqal and Quandela notebooks.

With this new education initiative, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Germany’s Federal Minister of Education and Research, praised the group for making a positive contribution to talent and skills development at the European level. It equips students with unique and ground-breaking techniques to help develop European software to meet new use cases and new challenges.
