This strategic initiative underscores VIRTUS’ commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and addressing the evolving needs of businesses in the digital age. The Saunderton campus, strategically situated close to the existing data centre hub in Slough, west of London, is poised to become a vital part of the UK’s digital infrastructure landscape.

The state-of-the-art campus is designed to feature four data centres with a combined IT capacity of 75MW, making it a significant addition to VIRTUS’ portfolio of data centre facilities. The site has already secured planning approval and is set to commence construction in the fourth quarter of 2024, with completion scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.

The acquisition of this new 50 acre campus is a significant step in VIRTUS’ strategic growth plans… We are dedicated to being at the forefront of supporting businesses on their digital transformation journeys, whilst ensuring that our data centres are built to the highest sustainability standards, aligning with our target to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Moreover, the Saunderton campus will prioritise environmental and societal considerations. It will be powered by 100% renewable energy, implement a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, and strive for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold accreditation. LEED is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits.

The new Saunderton project also aims to contribute positively to the local community by creating skilled job opportunities, investing in local infrastructure, and offering training programmes.
