UK’s largest AI data campus unveiled in Lincolnshire

    • The Elsham Tech Park project targets 1,000MW of IT capacity across 15 data halls.
    • The 176-hectare site includes energy infrastructure and food production linked to heat reuse.

What happened: Elsham Tech Park plans unveiled for major AI infrastructure build

A former RAF base in Lincolnshire could soon host the UK’s most ambitious digital infrastructure project to date. The proposed Elsham Tech Park would span 176 hectares, delivering over 1.5 million square metres of data centre space. The site will include 15 huge data halls, designed to meet growing AI and cloud computing demand.

Elsham Tech Park Ltd submitted an outline plan to North Lincolnshire Council for approval. The company aims to deliver 1,000MW of IT load, supporting next-generation technologies across industries. Construction will happen over 10 years and create 2,600 to 3,600 jobs annually across on-site and off-site locations.

The development also includes an on-site energy centre generating up to 49.9MW, plus battery storage and substations. A district heating system, commercial units, and a central spine road will link the entire campus together. Extensive bunds and tree belts will help hide the large buildings from nearby rural communities.

    Why it is important

This plan comes as the UK pushes for new AI Growth Zones to support digital and energy infrastructure. North Lincolnshire Council seeks this status to attract investment and fast-track approvals for the Elsham site. The developers hope to shift national digital growth away from London and into the north.

A key strength of the plan is its focus on environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. Heat from the servers will power greenhouses, helping reduce waste and support local food production. This circular approach is rare among UK data centres and could become a model for others.

If built, the park could place Lincolnshire at the centre of the UK’s AI and cloud economy. It would boost local businesses, attract tech firms, and help meet national data infrastructure demand. As AI adoption grows, Elsham could offer both the capacity and innovation the sector urgently needs.
