    • Telstra and Nokia are giving developers secure access to network APIs via a new lab environment.
    • The partnership aims to drive innovation and support Telstra’s ‘Network as a Product’ strategy.

What happened: Telstra and Nokia launch developer access to network APIs

Telstra has partnered with Nokia to provide developers with access to network APIs through muru-D Labs. This initiative uses Nokia’s Network as Code platform, providing a secure space for developers to build, test, and deploy applications. They will utilize both live and simulated network APIs to develop new solutions for enterprises across various industries. These applications will be able to tap into Telstra’s advanced network capabilities.

The partnership will focus on key use cases, including managing network traffic at large events and improving network monitoring. It will also work on prioritising critical services. Additionally, Telstra and Nokia will explore Fixed Network solutions by integrating Nokia’s service orchestration software. A local hackathon later this year will allow developers to test ideas using live network APIs in a sandbox environment.

    Why it’s important

This collaboration shows how network APIs are becoming a vital tool in the digital world. By opening up its network, Telstra allows businesses to integrate advanced network features into their applications. This creates opportunities in areas like IoT, AI, and edge computing. Developers can now build smarter, more responsive applications for enterprises. Telstra aims to make its network more flexible and programmable, creating new business models for developers.

The partnership also supports the GSMA Open Gateway API standard, ensuring compatibility across networks. Nokia’s expertise in network automation and security will provide developers with a reliable and secure platform. This collaboration strengthens Telstra’s position as a leader in network services and fosters innovation in the industry.
