What happened: Nokia partners with Vodafone idea to upgrade IP backhaul network

Nokia has been selected by Vodafone Idea (Vi) to upgrade and expand its IP backhaul network under a three-year agreement. This partnership aims to modernise Vi’s transport network by deploying Nokia’s advanced IP/MPLS solutions, including the 7750 SR and 7250 IXR series, across multiple telecom circles in India. The upgrade will enhance Vi’s core, aggregation, and access layers, creating a robust, scalable, and future-ready network capable of handling increasing data traffic and delivering superior connectivity for both mobility and enterprise services.

By incorporating Nokia’s solutions, Vi plans to densify its network with a significant deployment of IP routers and replace its legacy infrastructure. This will enable lower operational costs, faster deployment, and seamless scalability for future technologies, ensuring a more efficient and cost-effective network. The deployment also integrates advanced planning, design, installation, and migration services, supported by automation-based documentation.
