LINX Kenya Limited aims to improve peering infrastructure and interconnection in East Africa.
The company brings its UK expertise to support local ISPs, CDNs and enterprises.
LINX Kenya to provide new interconnection opportunities in East Africa
The London Internet Exchange (LINX), one of the world’s largest internet exchange point (IXP) operators, has launched LINX Kenya Limited, a new regional internet exchange based in Nairobi. The new platform aims to provide critical infrastructure for East Africa’s internet ecosystem, improving connectivity, lowering latency, and creating more efficient routes for local and international traffic.
According to LINX’s official website, the organisation is built on mutuality and non-profit values, with members including major ISPs, cloud providers, and content networks. Through its expansion into Kenya, LINX intends to support local carriers and data centre operators by offering secure, neutral interconnection services.
In addition to basic peering, LINX Kenya will provide services such as private VLANs, closed user groups, and cloud on-ramps, helping enterprises and ISPs reduce operational costs while enhancing security and performance.

LINX Kenya: Enhancing East Africa’s Digital Backbone
The entry of LINX into Kenya marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of Africa’s internet infrastructure. Historically, many African countries have grappled with high bandwidth costs and inefficient routing, largely because much of the continent’s internet traffic was routed through distant intercontinental links. This not only increased latency but also created unnecessary dependency on external infrastructure. By establishing local internet exchanges such as LINX Kenya, more data can be exchanged directly within regional borders. This shift promises to improve network performance, reduce costs, and enhance the overall reliability of internet services for users across East Africa.
This development aligns with broader trends within the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) industry, where principles of neutrality, transparency, and member-driven governance are considered essential for sustainable growth. As the African digital ecosystem rapidly expands—with increasing adoption of cloud services, content delivery networks (CDNs), and over-the-top (OTT) platforms—the demand for robust and scalable peering infrastructure has surged. Experienced operators like LINX are uniquely positioned to leverage their global expertise and proven operational models to help build resilient exchange environments that can meet the continent’s growing digital needs.
In a statement, LINX CEO Kurtis Lindqvist emphasised the company’s core mission of “supporting the growth of digital economies through robust interconnection.” With the launch of LINX Kenya, this mission is now being realised in East Africa, actively shaping the region’s digital future by facilitating faster, more efficient, and cost-effective internet connectivity.
