    • Ericsson launches the generative AI-powered NetCloud Assistant to streamline 5G network management.
    • The AI assistant boosts efficiency by automating configuration, troubleshooting, and policy tasks.

What happened: Ericsson launches AI assistant to simplify 5G network operations

Ericsson has introduced a new generative AI-based assistant, NetCloud Assistant (ANA), to help manage 5G wireless networks more easily. ANA uses large language model (LLM) technology to understand and generate responses. It assists network operators in configuring networks, troubleshooting issues, and creating policies more efficiently. The assistant can quickly summarise technical documents and gather insights from the network. It provides tailored and contextual answers, reducing the need for administrators to search for information manually. This helps them resolve problems more quickly.

NetCloud Assistant also ensures security by keeping all AI components within Ericsson’s environment, avoiding third-party AI services. ANA is designed for enterprise Wireless WAN (WWAN) networks, aiming to reduce manual tasks for administrators.

It includes several features, such as step-by-step guidance for device configuration, automated troubleshooting for connectivity issues, and policy recommendations. Future updates will bring custom graph generation and deeper integration with Ericsson’s AIOps dashboard to proactively detect and address performance issues.

    Why it’s important

Ericsson’s NetCloud Assistant will significantly enhance the management of 5G networks, making it easier for enterprises to deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot their infrastructure. By using generative AI, ANA provides network administrators with fast, accurate, and contextual responses, which helps to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

The assistant’s focus on security, by keeping all data within Ericsson’s environment, addresses concerns over the safety of third-party AI applications. With additional capabilities planned for future updates, ANA will provide an increasingly powerful tool for improving the reliability, security, and overall performance of 5G networks.

Moreover, ANA’s integration with AIOps means that network issues can be detected and addressed proactively, reducing the time spent on repairs and improving the overall user experience.
