What happened: AI-powered platform for sustainable development

e& has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and GSMA to launch an AI-powered Social and Climate Platform. This platform leverages AI to analyse unconventional data in real time, providing policymakers with actionable insights to drive sustainable development across the Arab States and beyond. Developed under the Digital for Sustainable Development initiative, the platform uses natural language processing and sentiment analysis to monitor key issues such as climate change, natural disasters, and public health.

During the 2023 United Nations General Assembly, e& and UNDP announced their collaboration on AI use cases to assess the impact of the Türkiye-Syria earthquake. Building on this progress, they are now expanding AI-driven applications in healthcare, using AI to improve insights and service delivery. This partnership aims to enhance resilience and sustainability by processing massive datasets, enabling researchers and decision-makers to act decisively.

By using AI to analyse real-time data, policymakers can make informed decisions that drive sustainable development. This initiative aligns with UNDP’s commitment to ensuring that AI benefits everyone, everywhere. The platform’s focus on climate, health, and disaster resilience underscores the importance of leveraging technology to tackle complex issues. As AI becomes more integrated into development strategies, it offers a powerful tool for enhancing resilience and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
