    • CoreWeave launches two operational data centres in Crawley and London Docklands, marking its first UK deployments.
    • The facilities will support large-scale Nvidia GPU deployments, boosting AI infrastructure in the UK.

What happened: CoreWeave’s expansion into the UK AI infrastructure market

CoreWeave, a cloud firm focused on GPU-powered infrastructure for AI, has officially opened its first two data centres in the UK. The Crawley site, located within a Digital Realty facility, went live in October 2024, while the London Docklands facility, hosted by Global Switch, became operational in December 2024. These new centres will host some of the largest Nvidia H200 GPU deployments in Europe, supporting the growing demand for high-performance computing.

This launch is part of CoreWeave’s broader £1 billion investment into the UK, with an additional £750 million investment announced in October 2024. The move follows the company’s European expansion strategy, with further data centres planned across the region, including facilities in Spain, Sweden, and Norway.

    Why it’s important

The launch of CoreWeave’s data centres represents a critical development in Europe’s AI and GPU infrastructure, aligning with the UK’s broader ambitions to become a global leader in digital technologies. By establishing these key locations in London and Crawley, CoreWeave is responding to the growing demand for high-performance computing, particularly within AI and machine learning fields. The partnership with major data centre providers like Digital Realty and Global Switch highlights the increasing reliance on resilient and energy-efficient infrastructure to support the future of AI.

The deployment of Nvidia’s H200 GPUs, known for their exceptional AI processing power, ensures that CoreWeave is at the forefront of the AI revolution in the UK and beyond. This move also strengthens the UK’s position in AI development, offering companies across Europe access to cutting-edge technology and scalable solutions for their AI workloads. As the UK government continues to focus on AI and digital innovation as key economic drivers, CoreWeave’s investment and infrastructure expansion is a timely boost, creating new opportunities for businesses and strengthening the nation’s competitive edge in AI and high-tech sectors.

Furthermore, the ongoing expansion of CoreWeave in Europe underscores the growing importance of the region as a global hub for AI and data-driven technologies, attracting international investments and supporting long-term economic growth.
