  • APAN60 will run from 28 July to 1 August 2025 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
  • The event includes high-level workshops, academic panels, and cross-border collaboration sessions on emerging technologies.

Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) 60th meeting

The Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) community is preparing to gather once again — this time in Hong Kong, for its landmark 60th meeting. From 28 July to 1 August 2025, the city will host a dynamic week of knowledge exchange, innovation, and regional collaboration at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, marking the second time Hong Kong has hosted the event since APAN42 in 2016.

Organised by the Joint Universities Computer Centre (JUCC), APAN60 will bring together over 300 researchers, engineers, and educators from more than 30 economies. The agenda includes hands-on workshops, academic presentations, tutorials, and panel discussions covering cutting-edge topics in network architecture, cybersecurity, AI applications, and digital infrastructure for research and education.

As Dr Wilson Kwok, Chairman of the APAN60 Hong Kong Organising Committee and Director of JUCC, noted:

We are enthusiastic about this opportunity to explore new horizons and cultivate enduring partnerships. Building on the successes of past conferences, we are dedicated to establishing an interactive platform that nurtures collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technological advancements.

Why it matters

For APAN, a non-profit consortium of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), these biannual meetings are more than just conferences — they are essential to the region’s digital development. APAN’s work underpins global research efforts, enabling everything from real-time scientific collaboration to advanced medical imaging and environmental modelling.

Hong Kong, often described as a place “where East meets West”, provides a fitting venue for such dialogue. With its strong tech infrastructure and international outlook, the city exemplifies the cross-cultural and interdisciplinary spirit that APAN embodies.

As digital demands grow in academia and research, APAN60 will play a pivotal role in shaping how institutions across Asia-Pacific collaborate and build next-generation digital platforms. Attendees can expect a stimulating environment to explore policy challenges, share real-world deployments, and engage in cross-sector knowledge exchange that supports both national and international digital goals.
