Adobe launched the first Firefly beta on 21 March 2023 with text-to-image generation and text effects. It said the model was trained on Adobe Stock, openly licensed work and public-domain content whose copyright had expired, and described it as designed for commercial safety. At launch, however, Firefly was a beta, planned integrations and APIs were future work, contributor compensation details were unfinished, and a provenance label could describe process without guaranteeing rights, truth or safe reuse.
