    • AI-powered tool monitors subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore assets.
    • New technology responds to growing global security concerns over maritime infrastructure.

What happened: Windward unveils AI-Powered monitoring solution for maritime infrastructure

Maritime AI company Windward has launched its Critical Maritime Infrastructure Protection solution, an AI-driven tool designed to safeguard undersea infrastructure, including subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore rigs. The software offers real-time monitoring alerts and is aimed at preventing disruption caused by the increasing vulnerability of global energy and data networks.

Recent incidents, such as the damage to undersea cables in the Baltic Sea and Taiwan, have drawn attention to the fragility of critical maritime infrastructure. With more than 100 subsea cable faults reported annually, and growing concerns over geopolitical tensions, the need for enhanced monitoring has never been greater. Windward’s solution integrates AI-powered behavioural detection with cable mapping, historical data, and predictive analytics, providing real-time alerts and in-depth risk analysis.

The partnership with Dataminr enables Windward’s software to access real-time AI-powered data streams, providing critical event and risk detection from publicly available data sources.

    Why it’s important

The launch of Windward’s AI-powered solution comes at a time when the security of subsea infrastructure is under increasing threat. The vulnerability of undersea cables, which facilitate critical communications and data transfer globally, is a growing concern.

Windward’s platform monitors and flags suspicious vessel activity, helping prevent potential attacks or accidents that could cause major disruptions. The increasing number of cable faults reported annually, coupled with their proximity to geopolitical hotspots, makes it vital for organisations to adopt preventive measures.

Windward’s solution empowers governments, telecom providers, and energy companies to proactively mitigate risks and enhance the security of vital infrastructure. Furthermore, it supports post-incident investigations, providing valuable data to insurers, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies.
