    • Part of Vi’s plan to roll out 5G across all 17 priority circles by August 2025.

What happened: Vi launches 5G in Delhi NCR with Ericsson radios

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G services in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), marking a significant milestone in its network expansion. The rollout is part of Vi’s broader strategy to deploy 5G across all 17 priority circles where it holds 5G spectrum by August 2025. To support this initiative, Vi has partnered with Ericsson to upgrade its network infrastructure. The deployment includes Ericsson’s mid-band Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios, specifically the AIR 3268 and AIR 3255 models. These energy-efficient and lightweight radios are designed to improve spectrum efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and optimize overall network performance. The upgrade also involved replacing legacy 2G and 4G equipment with Ericsson’s advanced radio products, ensuring a seamless transition without network interruptions.

    Why it’s important

The introduction of 5G services in Delhi NCR enhances Vi’s competitive position in the Indian telecom market, especially against rivals Jio and Airtel. By leveraging Ericsson’s Massive MIMO technology, Vi aims to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity to meet the growing data demands of consumers and businesses. The successful deployment in Delhi NCR sets the stage for subsequent rollouts in other key markets, including Bengaluru and Mysuru, as part of Vi’s nationwide 5G expansion plan.
