What happened: SpinLaunch’s Meridian Space constellation

SpinLaunch, a satellite company specialising in kinetic energy-based launches, has received a $12 million investment from Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace. This funding supports the development of the Meridian Space constellation, a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network designed to provide global broadband coverage. The constellation plans to deploy 250 microsatellites using a single rocket launch.

Why it’s important

The $12 million investment from Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace enables SpinLaunch to accelerate the development of its Meridian Space constellation project. The initiative aims to launch a network of 250 microsatellites to deliver high-capacity broadband connectivity on a global scale. With this funding, SpinLaunch plans to move forward with its kinetic launch technology, which offers a low-cost and energy-efficient alternative to traditional rocket launches. By leveraging this method, the company intends to achieve scalable deployment of satellite systems that can serve underserved regions and reduce dependence on terrestrial infrastructure

This advancement aligns with growing demand for data-intensive applications and continuous efforts to expand global digital access. The collaboration also highlights increasing confidence in new-generation space technologies as a means of meeting rising bandwidth needs. Through this project, SpinLaunch contributes to the broader shift towards low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations that support remote connectivity, commercial services, and secure communication platforms worldwide.
