What happened: S and BTS Global appoints Norioki Sekiguchi as CEO

S and BTS Global, a joint venture between Business Telecommunications Services (BTS) and SoftBank, has announced the appointment of Norioki Sekiguchi as its new CEO. This significant leadership change was revealed during the Capacity Middle East 2025 event, marking a new chapter for the company as it continues to expand its presence across the APAC and Middle East regions.

Sekiguchi, who has served as VP of SoftBank Corp.’s Global Business Division since 2019, brings extensive experience and strategic vision to his new role. He succeeds Ricardo Olloqui, the founding CEO, who will transition to the role of executive chairman while maintaining his position as President of BTS.

The company has achieved remarkable success since its inception in 2017, transforming a declining business into a profitable venture with over 90% market share in Japan’s overseas traffic termination sector. Under Sekiguchi’s leadership, the company aims to strengthen operational efficiencies, expand strategic partnerships, and introduce next-generation solutions such as Mobile ID and Programmable Communications.

Why it’s important

The appointment of Norioki Sekiguchi as CEO of S and BTS Global K.K. signifies a strategic evolution for the company. With his deep understanding of international markets and strategic vision, Sekiguchi is poised to drive the next phase of growth, particularly in the high-growth markets of APAC and the Middle East.

The joint venture has already achieved significant milestones, including over 90% market share in Japan’s overseas traffic termination and a successful partnership with BBIX, SoftBank’s subsidiary. This exclusive agreement ensures secure and seamless delivery of international A2P SMS traffic, further strengthening the global messaging ecosystem.

As competition in the telecommunications sector intensifies, Sekiguchi’s leadership will be crucial in maintaining S and BTS Global K.K.’s competitive edge and accelerating its digital transformation initiatives.
