    • Nscale raised $155 million in series A funding to expand its AI infrastructure in Europe and North America.
    • This investment positions Nscale for growth with plans for a public cloud service and GPU deployment in the MENA region.

What happened: Nscale boosts AI infrastructure funding

AI hyperscaler Nscale has successfully raised $155 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round, led by Sandton Capital Partners and supported by Kestrel, Bluesky Asset Management, and Florence Capital. This significant investment will accelerate Nscale’s expansion in Europe and North America, reinforcing its position in the AI-ready infrastructure market. Launched in May 2024, Nscale focuses on sustainable AI data centres, GPU infrastructure, and high-performance AI cloud services. Its comprehensive platform supports the entire generative AI lifecycle, offering both bare metal and virtualised GPU nodes, alongside advanced inferencing and workload scheduling. Nscale plans to launch a public cloud service in early 2025, aimed at developers seeking flexible AI training and inference solutions. The funding follows a previous $30 million seed round in December 2023, with Nscale’s pipeline growing from 300 MW to 1.3 GW of greenfield data centres.

    Why this is important

Nscale’s $155 million funding round highlights the increasing demand for AI infrastructure as the market rapidly evolves. As businesses and developers seek robust solutions to support AI applications, Nscale’s vertically integrated approach positions it as a key player in this burgeoning sector. The company’s commitment to sustainable practices, including advanced cooling technologies in its data centres, aligns with the industry’s shift towards greener operations. This investment will enable Nscale to deploy bespoke GPU clusters that cater to the specific needs of large-scale AI customers, potentially outpacing competitors.

Moreover, Nscale’s collaboration with Open Innovation AI to deploy 30,000 GPUs in the MENA region signifies its ambition to expand its footprint beyond traditional markets. Recognition for its Svartisen Cluster on the 2024 Top500 list further establishes Nscale’s credibility in the supercomputing arena. As AI continues to permeate various sectors, Nscale’s advancements in infrastructure will undoubtedly impact tech stakeholders and shape the future of AI development globally.
