    • Nokia enhances network reliability with AI.
    • Focus on automation in cloud services.

What happened: Speeding up network solutions

Nokia kicked off the Mobile World Congress (MWC) with significant announcements regarding its AI-powered Radio Access Networks (RAN). Outgoing CEO Pekka Lundmark emphasized the company’s commitment to integrating Generative AI, which has drastically reduced the time required to create a network slice from days to mere minutes. This rapid development is essential in an industry where speed and efficiency are paramount. Nokia also announced a dedicated hub at its US office to focus on these advancements.

Jean Lawrence, VP of Marketing for Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, elaborated on the company’s strategy. The focus on cloud-native solutions, AI automation, and monetization is designed to assist customers in navigating their digital transformation journeys. Notably, Nokia introduced a proactive threat hunt assistant within its security portfolio, harnessing AI to help data scientists anticipate and mitigate emerging security threats. This proactive approach is crucial in maintaining robust network security in an increasingly complex digital landscape.

    Why it’s important

The integration of AI into Nokia’s operations is vital for several reasons. First, as Lawrence highlighted, finding the balance between reliability and the need for rapid innovation is a significant challenge. Telecommunications customers depend on Nokia for critical network functionalities, which means that maintaining high reliability is essential. However, the fast-paced nature of technology requires companies to innovate quickly, making this balance increasingly difficult to achieve.

Nokia’s move towards a cloud-native architecture is a strategic response to this challenge. By enhancing agility and enabling swift transitions to backup systems during emergencies—such as natural disasters—Nokia ensures uninterrupted service. This capability is crucial for maintaining customer trust and satisfaction, especially when core network functionalities are at stake. The ongoing vendor consolidation in the telecommunications market further underscores the importance of agility and reliability in operations, as companies seek to improve service delivery and reduce operational complexities.

In summary, Nokia’s emphasis on AI and cloud solutions is not just a response to industry trends; it is a proactive strategy to redefine standards of reliability and innovation in the telecommunications sector. As AI continues to evolve, its role in enhancing both operational efficiency and security will be vital for the future of network services.
