What happened: Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison partners with Nokia

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) has partnered with Nokia to expand its 4G and 5G networks across Indonesia. The deal, running from 2025 to 2027, will see Nokia provide its AirScale equipment, including multiband radios and high-capacity baseband solutions, to enhance IOH’s network infrastructure. Nokia will also supply its FastMile Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions in key regions, offering wider broadband access to homes and businesses across Indonesia. This collaboration aligns with IOH’s mission to empower Indonesia through reliable connectivity and digitalisation.

Vikram Sinha, CEO of IOH, emphasised the role of cutting-edge technology in improving network reliability and making digital services accessible to all Indonesians. The deal also incorporates AI and machine learning solutions from Nokia to optimise network investments and efficiency. Nokia’s Tommi Uitto highlighted that this partnership will help build a future-ready, AI-driven network. The network will support Indonesia’s digital growth and improve the quality of life for its people.

Why it is important

This partnership is significant for Indonesia’s digital future. By teaming up with Nokia, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) aims to expand its 4G and 5G networks, boosting connectivity across the country. The deal, running from 2025 to 2027, will see the deployment of advanced AirScale equipment, enhancing network capacity and coverage.

The collaboration supports IOH’s mission to improve digital access for homes and businesses through Nokia’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions. This will provide broader broadband access to millions of Indonesians, aligning with the country’s push for greater digital inclusion.

Moreover, AI and machine learning will optimise network investments, improving efficiency. This will help build a future-proof network, meeting growing demand and enabling new digital services. Ultimately, the partnership will improve quality of life in Indonesia by offering faster, more reliable connectivity to both urban and rural areas.
