- Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router and SR-Linux NOS with Event Driven Automation will power Converge’s next-gen data hubs
- Partnership supports AI workloads, energy efficiency, and data sovereignty compliance across the Philippines
What happened: Philippines’ fibre-broadband operator Converge ICT teams up with Nokia
Nokia has struck a deal with Converge ICT Solutions in the Philippines to deploy its Data Centre Fabric solution, centred on the high-capacity 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR), combined with the next-generation SR-Linux operating system and Event-Driven Automation (EDA) platform. This hardware-software integration will underpin Converge’s expanding data centre footprint in Pampanga, Laguna and Caloocan, all purpose-built to support AI applications and generative-AI services.
Converge’s CEO, Dennis Anthony Uy, highlights the need for a network capable of seamless integration between traditional and AI workloads, ensuring “extreme scalability and reliability” in service delivery. Meanwhile, Paulo Martin Santos, Chief Network Transformation Officer, confirms that automation will play a vital role in reducing energy consumption, maintaining regulatory compliance, and boosting operational efficiency.

Why it’s important
This collaboration signifies a major step in the Philippines’ digital transformation, both by enhancing Converge’s capacity to host advanced AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads and by ensuring sovereign-ready cloud infrastructure. By embracing energy-efficient, AI-driven automation, the operator not only boosts performance but also supports national sustainability goals and compliance mandates.
Furthermore, Nokia’s involvement—via its EDA and SR-Linux powered IXR platform—sets a regional precedent. Similar upgrades are underway in Malaysia via Nokia’s recent contract with Maxis, furthering enhanced connectivity and automation across ASEAN. For Converge, this means staying ahead in the competitive broadband and data centre space, preparing for surging demand in AI and cloud-native services.
