LS Cable & System has announced its participation in the Japan-Korea Submarine Communication Network Construction Project (JAKO) alongside its subsidiary, LS Marine Solution. This initiative, led by a consortium including tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, aims to enhance digital connectivity between East Asia and North America.
The project will involve laying optical cables along a 260-kilometre route connecting Busan, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan, with construction set to begin in 2025 and completion expected by 2027. The estimated value of the project exceeds several hundred million dollars, marking a significant investment in submarine communication infrastructure. LS Cable will manage the entire operation, making it the first Korean company to secure a global submarine communication project on a turnkey basis.
