    • Nvidia, Intel, and AMD unveil their AI-focused innovations at CES 2025.
    • OpenAI CEO discusses AGI and superintelligence, fuelling AI’s growing influence.

What happened: CES 2025 spotlights ambitious AI goals from tech giants

CES 2025 has become a major platform for showcasing groundbreaking AI advancements from leading chipmakers such as Nvidia, Intel, and AMD. Nvidia revealed its latest initiative, Project DIGITS, which brings the Grace Blackwell Superchip to desktop platforms.

This chip offers up to 1 petaflop of AI performance, making it a significant leap in accessibility for developers and researchers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the technology’s potential, stating, “AI will be mainstream in every application for every industry,” and emphasised its ability to empower millions of AI enthusiasts globally.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added to the AI momentum, sharing bold claims about reaching AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and moving beyond it towards superintelligence. Meanwhile, Intel and AMD used CES to highlight their cutting-edge AI chips, with Intel focusing on edge computing and AMD targeting the emerging AI PC market.

With such high-profile announcements, CES 2025 is positioning AI as the defining force in shaping the technology landscape for years to come.

    Why it’s important

The sweeping AI-focused announcements at CES 2025 underscore the technology’s growing influence across industries. Nvidia’s Project DIGITS democratises access to high-powered AI tools, enabling developers and researchers to contribute to this fast-evolving field.

This move aligns with the broader shift of bringing AI capabilities closer to end-users, as seen in Intel’s edge computing solutions and AMD’s focus on AI PCs.

Sam Altman’s vision for AGI and superintelligence adds a speculative yet tantalising dimension to AI’s future, raising both possibilities and ethical concerns. The accelerated push for AI integration across hardware and software indicates that 2025 could see breakthroughs in how industries leverage AI for efficiency and innovation.

As chipmakers compete for dominance, consumers and businesses alike are poised to benefit from the next generation of AI-driven products and services.
