What happened: BDx secures funding for Hong Kong’s first hyperscale data centre

Asia Pacific data centre operator BDx has secured funding for its first hyperscale data centre in Hong Kong. The financing comes from Clifford Capital, UOB, and SMBC, aimed at developing a flagship facility located in Kwai Chung. Although the specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed, BDx‘s CEO, Mayank Srivastava, emphasised the project’s role in accelerating digital transformation across Asia.

Designed for scale, performance, and sustainability, the data centre will be developed in collaboration with an unnamed anchor hyperscale partner. This marks BDx’s third financing facility, following successful funding for projects in Singapore and Indonesia, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region.

Why it’s important

This development is significant as it highlights the growing demand for digital infrastructure in Asia, driven by an increasing reliance on cloud services and data processing capabilities. BDx’s new facility will contribute to the region’s digital economy by providing high-capacity solutions tailored to meet the needs of businesses and governments.

The emphasis on sustainability is also noteworthy; as global climate concerns grow, investments in green data centres are becoming more critical. BDx aims to position itself at the forefront of this trend, aligning with wider industry movements towards environmentally responsible practices.

Moreover, the demand for hyperscale data centres is surging, particularly in densely populated areas like Hong Kong. As companies seek to enhance their digital capabilities, BDx’s investment reflects a strategic response to evolving market needs. This aligns with broader industry trends, such as the increasing focus on energy-efficient technologies and modular data centre designs, which offer scalability and rapid deployment.
