    • TDA is Algeria’s state-owned broadcaster and ISP, managing radio, TV, satellite, internet, and datacentre services nationwide.
    • The company leads Algeria’s digital transition while tackling challenges from OTT platforms, cybersecurity, and infrastructure modernisation.

TDA drives Algeria’s broadcasting and digital infrastructure

Télédiffusion d’Algérie (TDA), Algeria’s state-owned broadcasting and telecommunications enterprise, has been the cornerstone of the country’s radio and television transmission since its founding in 1986. Operating under the Ministry of Communication, TDA manages a nationwide terrestrial network comprising over 250 transmitters and six regional directorates, delivering television and radio signals to millions across Algeria and beyond.

Beyond traditional broadcast services, TDA has expanded its portfolio to include satellite distribution across the MENA region, high-speed internet services branded as “TDA Net,” web hosting, VPS solutions, and technical co-location services.

As the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) and datacentre operator in Algeria, TDA holds a critical role in managing the country’s IP infrastructure with its AFRINIC-assigned Autonomous System Number (AS21391) and thousands of IPv4 addresses. The company continues to invest in upgrading its networks to support Algeria’s ongoing digital transition, particularly through digital terrestrial television (DTT) coverage, which now reaches approximately 85% of the population.

TDA’s role in Algeria’s digital shift and industry trends

TDA’s evolution reflects a broader regional and global shift from analogue broadcasting towards integrated digital services, highlighting the challenges and opportunities faced by public broadcasters in North Africa.

As Algeria’s digital economy expands, reliable infrastructure providers like TDA are vital for bridging the digital divide and supporting government and enterprise connectivity needs. The company’s hybrid offering—combining traditional broadcasting with internet, hosting, and datacentre services—positions it uniquely at the nexus of media and telecommunications innovation.

However, TDA also faces significant challenges common to the industry, including the rise of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms, increased demand for fibre broadband and 5G connectivity, and growing cybersecurity concerns for critical infrastructure.

Moreover, TDA’s work impacts not only Algerian citizens but the broader MENA region, supporting regional content distribution and digital sovereignty. With national competitors like Algeria Telecom pushing fibre and cybersecurity solutions, TDA’s ability to innovate and expand will be key to sustaining Algeria’s media infrastructure and enabling digital inclusion for millions.
