The Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), in collaboration with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and with the support of Inha University in Tashkent, hosted the Internet Measurement Day in Uzbekistan.

Internet Measurement Day 2024

In order to maintain stable network growth and operation, Internet Measurement Day, now in its fourth year throughout Eastern and Central Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, focuses on promoting Internet research.

With an emphasis on domain names, IP addresses, routing, and connection, the event seeks to improve quality and security. More than 50 people attended the event, including representatives of international organizations, government agencies, telecom companies, and academic institutions.

Key subjects included the Routing Information Service (RIS), Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI), ITHI Metrics, RIPE Atlas, and insights into Internet resilience in Central Asia provided by the Internet Society.

RIPE NCC plans central Asia event

The RIPE NCC also held an informal meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, Inha University in Tashkent, and UZINFOCOM.

The discussions focused on potential collaborations, exploring ways to enhance Internet infrastructure, and addressing key challenges in digital technology development within Uzbekistan.

This year, the RIPE NCC has a number of events planned around Central Asia, one of which being the third Central Asia Peering and Interconnection Forum, which will take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The RIPE NCC, traditionally a European organisation, has controversially decided to expand its focus into Central Asia. The organisation’s finances and European focus are allegedly diminished by this growth, which may cause it to overlook the demands of its core members.
