    • 298 submissions received from RIR communities.
    • Duplicate responses consolidated and analysed for transparency.

What happened: Community input will guide future ICP-2 updates

On 24 February 2025, the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) published the results of a comprehensive qualitative analysis conducted on the responses received to its ICP-2 Principles Questionnaire. The questionnaire, open from 8 October to 6 December 2024, aimed to gather community feedback on proposed principles for updating ICP-2. During the open period, the NRO NC collected 298 individual submissions from Regional Internet Registry (RIR) communities.

The summary document, available in both PDF and CSV formats, presents an overview of the community’s input, which will aid in drafting the updated ICP-2 document. However, it does not offer any opinions or evaluations from the NRO NC on the feedback received. The next steps include continued discussions on the feedback, as well as consideration of additional public comments submitted to ICANN.

    Why it’s important

The completion of the ICP-2 Principles Questionnaire and its subsequent analysis is an essential step in ensuring that the updated ICP-2 principles reflect the input of the global RIR communities. The data collected during this process will guide the drafting of a new version of ICP-2, which governs the management of Internet number resources. The feedback gathered highlights the importance of transparency and community engagement in global policy development. By incorporating input from various stakeholders, the NRO NC aims to make well-informed decisions that will benefit the broader Internet community.

The results of this questionnaire are crucial in shaping future discussions on the evolution of ICP-2 and Internet number resource management. As digital infrastructure continues to grow globally, input from a wide range of participants ensures that policies remain relevant and responsive to emerging challenges.
