What happened:LACNIC publishes ICP-2 feedback insights

LACNIC has released a comprehensive report detailing the community responses to its ICP-2 principles questionnaire. Open from 8 October to 6 December 2024, the survey attracted 298 individual submissions from the Regional Internet Registry communities. The report summarises these insights, aimed at supporting the drafting of an updated ICP-2 document. Notably, the feedback process highlighted several duplicate comments, which were consolidated for analysis. The report also prioritises the content of responses over ratings when discrepancies arose. This approach ensures transparency in the data, with full datasets available in both PDF and CSV formats. LACNIC appreciates the contributions from all participants, acknowledging the effort required to complete the lengthy questionnaire.

    Why this is important

The findings from LACNIC’s questionnaire are significant for several reasons. First, they reflect the community’s collective stance on crucial governance principles that shape internet policies. As global internet usage expands, the need for clear, adaptable governance frameworks becomes increasingly critical. The insights gathered can inform not only LACNIC’s policy development but also influence practices across various Regional Internet Registries worldwide.

Moreover, this report addresses larger issues in internet governance, such as transparency and community involvement in decision-making processes. With ongoing debates about data privacy, cybersecurity, and equitable access to resources, understanding community sentiment helps ensure that governance frameworks address these pressing concerns.

Furthermore, the emphasis on addressing duplicate responses and prioritising content underscores the commitment to accuracy and meaningful engagement with stakeholders. This transparency is essential as the internet continues to evolve, and it encourages trust among users and organisations alike. By highlighting these issues, LACNIC reinforces the importance of community feedback in shaping a sustainable and inclusive internet governance model. The outcomes of this questionnaire not only impact LACNIC’s future policies but also resonate with broader discussions in the tech industry, making it a relevant topic for all internet users.
